      During the month of September, Virtual Strides is hosting the Battle of the Badges to benefit both the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. 

      The Battle runs through the end of Sept. The NFFF receives $5 from everyone who registers to support us, plus the winning organization receives a $1,000 bonus. Register before 9/1 and the registration fee is reduced. You'll see a scoreboard showing which organization is in the lead.

      • Speedway To Honor Service Of Police Officers With Free Admission For Them And A Companion To Aug. 27 INDYCAR Race

      • Ticket Offer Also Will Be Extended To All First Responders

      FORT WORTH, Texas (August 3, 2016) - Texas Motor Speedway will play host to "Back The Blue Night" at the Firestone 600 Verizon IndyCar Series race on Saturday, Aug. 27, to display its appreciation for the dedicated service of police officers. 

      release"Back The Blue Night" will honor police officers near and far by providing them and a companion free admission to the Firestone 600. Police personnel will be required to show their badge or proper identification at the gate for admittance to the event that will have general admission seating. Texas Motor Speedway also will extend this offer to all first responders that show proper identification at the gate. 

      The Firestone 600 will begin at 8 p.m. CT and be televised live on the NBC Sports Network. The race also will be available live on the IMS Radio Network as well as locally on 95.9 The Ranch. 

      The Firestone 600 is the resumption of the race that was postponed Saturday, June 11, due to weather and rescheduled for the following day. A total of 71 of the scheduled 248 laps were run June 12 before the race was suspended due to inclement weather. The race, which now is in the championship stretch of the season as the third to last race, will resume on Lap 72 with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver James Hinchcliffe leading. 

      The "Restart Your Engines" schedule begins with gates opening to the public at 4 p.m. CT. Race activities start with a Verizon IndyCar Series practice from 4:30-5 p.m. and an autograph session featuring the entire driver field from 5:30-6:15 p.m. on the main concourse. 

      Texas Motor Speedway will be offering fans attending the one-day event some additional perks including $1 hot dogs and Coca-Cola beverages from Levy Restaurants and the first 3,000 fans receiving a free vintage Indy-car t-shirt compliments of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Properties. SMIP also will provide fans with free souvenir race programs from the original June event while supplies last.

      All frontstretch seating, including premium sections, will be general admission and priced at $28 with children 12 and under at $10.

      South Plains Fair starts September 22nd thru October 1st!!

      Two of our own LPFFA Members will be traveling to Seattle on March 6, to attend the 25th Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb.

      This event is a 69 story climb up the Columbia Center in Downtown Seattle. The climb is done in full firefighting gear and breathing off of an air pack. This grueling task is done to help raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

      Tim Selander Update

      Just wanted to send out an update about Mike Selander's son Tim. Due to the increase in size of one of the brain tumors, Tim has lost most of the use of his left side. This loss of mobility and the layout of their home have created the need for an in home stair lift and a wheelchair accessible van.

      This afternoon, headquarters units and Engine 2 were dispatched to 321 Main St., the Alice building, for a reported structure fire. Battalion 1 arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire, with smoke coming from the second floor rear of the building.  After forcing entry to the fire apartment, firefighters had zero visibility.

      This group photo of IAFF Local 42 Members and Family Members and Friends of our three Fallen Brothers was taken in Colorado Springs, CO at the 2016 IAFF Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service.  The IAFF placed the names of three members of the KCFD and IAFF Local 42 who died in the Line of Duty: FAO Larry Leggio, Firefighter John Mesh and Firefighter Danny Rapp in 2015.

      Two Livonia Churchill High School freshmen boys were killed  Saturday in Plymouth Township after the stolen Ford Mustang they were in hit a minivan, rolled over and burst into flames, police said. The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the teens' ages as 14 and 15 but didn't release their names Sunday afternoon.

      Sign up now to celebrate the holiday season with us as we march in Norfolk's Grand Illumination Parade on Saturday, November 19th (C-shift). Specific meeting time is not set yet, but attendees should expect to be in Norfolk around 4pm or meet at training to car pool in the training van between 2-3pm. The parade ends around 10pm.
