      • Speedway To Honor Service Of Police Officers With Free Admission For Them And A Companion To Aug. 27 INDYCAR Race

      FORT WORTH, Texas (August 3, 2016) - Texas Motor Speedway will play host to "Back The Blue Night" at the Firestone 600 Verizon IndyCar Series race on Saturday, Aug. 27, to display its appreciation for the dedicated service of police officers. 

      release"Back The Blue Night" will honor police officers near and far by providing them and a companion free admission to the Firestone 600. Police personnel will be required to show their badge or proper identification at the gate for admittance to the event that will have general admission seating. Texas Motor Speedway also will extend this offer to all first responders that show proper identification at the gate. 

      The Firestone 600 will begin at 8 p.m. CT and be televised live on the NBC Sports Network. The race also will be available live on the IMS Radio Network as well as locally on 95.9 The Ranch. 

      The Firestone 600 is the resumption of the race that was postponed Saturday, June 11, due to weather and rescheduled for the following day. A total of 71 of the scheduled 248 laps were run June 12 before the race was suspended due to inclement weather. The race, which now is in the championship stretch of the season as the third to last race, will resume on Lap 72 with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver James Hinchcliffe leading. 

      The "Restart Your Engines" schedule begins with gates opening to the public at 4 p.m. CT. Race activities start with a Verizon IndyCar Series practice from 4:30-5 p.m. and an autograph session featuring the entire driver field from 5:30-6:15 p.m. on the main concourse. 

      Texas Motor Speedway will be offering fans attending the one-day event some additional perks including $1 hot dogs and Coca-Cola beverages from Levy Restaurants and the first 3,000 fans receiving a free vintage Indy-car t-shirt compliments of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Properties. SMIP also will provide fans with free souvenir race programs from the original June event while supplies last.

      All frontstretch seating, including premium sections, will be general admission and priced at $28 with children 12 and under at $10.

      South Plains Fair starts September 22nd thru October 1st!!

      Two of our own LPFFA Members will be traveling to Seattle on March 6, to attend the 25th Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb.

      This event is a 69 story climb up the Columbia Center in Downtown Seattle. The climb is done in full firefighting gear and breathing off of an air pack. This grueling task is done to help raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

      The Buffalo Professional Firefighters is hosting their 6th Annual Dinner Party.  At this party we honor all those who were promoted in 2016 and all of those retired in 2016 and beginning of 2017.  It will be held at Pearl Street Grill on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 6 pm to 11 pm.  The cost is $40 and includes dinner, open bar and music.

      Thomas G. Byrne, 51, of Kansas City, MO., passed away February 11, 2017 at Saint Luke's East Hospital. A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 2552 Gillham Rd, Kansas City, MO., on Tuesday, Feb 14th from 4-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

      R.I.P. Brother Bob Scholl  6/12/32 - 2/12/17 Lt. Robert “Bob” Scholl. Bob passed away in his home state of Arizona yesterday, February 12. He was born on June 12, 1932 and was 84 years old. Bob began here with the Hoffman Estates Volunteer Firemen’s Association and began his career as a full-time firefighter on August 8, 1968.

      OAPFF Secretary-Treasurer Dies in Car Accident The IAFF is saddened to learn about the death of Ohio Association of Professional Fire Fighters (OAPFF) Secretary-Treasurer Mark Horton. Horton, 64, was on his way to an IAFF training seminar when he was killed in a car accident.

      More than 500 City of Twinsburg Ohio employees have their W-2's stolen in a phishing scam.  Several firefighters have already had fraudulent tax returns filed using their stolen W-2's. About 500 current and former employees were affected by the phishing scam. The Internal Revenue Service and the Twinsburg Police Department are reportedly investigating the matter.

Engineer McCauley was a 29 year veteran of the Des Moines Fire Department serving at Fire Station 9. Local 4 would like to extend its condolences to Engineer McCauley’s two sons, Ryan and Cole, and their families.
